Award-Winning Sandy Shores
Holkham beach is a fantastic day out for the family, with its award-winning sandy shores surrounded by the Holkham National Nature Reserve. This sandy stretch is a huge hit with younger ones as it is the perfect place to explore and have fun with a good old bucket and spade. Whilst this is a dog friendly beach, there are restrictions at certain times of the year mainly in place to protect the breeding seasons of the shorebirds within the Nature Reserve. Holkham beach is also enjoyed by equestrian visitors which is a wonderful sight to see horses taking their daily exercise along the sandy shores.
Holkham Hall
Built in the 18th century, Holkham Hall is a fine example of the Palladian revival style of architecture. Originally built by Thomas Coke, the 1st Earl of Leicester, Holkham Hall is a marvellous place to spend the day exploring the hidden gems the main house has to offer. A must see is the Marble Hall which has an impressive 50ft dome ceiling that sets the grand tone as you enter the property. The 25,000-acre estate is sited along the stunning coastline and is surrounded by rolling parkland with opportunities to discover both the wildlife and landscape, don’t forget on a Summer’s day there’s boat hire on Holkham lake too.
Did you know that Holkham Hall is currently owners by Thomas Coke, the 8th Earl of Leicester whose family have owned the Estate since the early 1600s.
